Charles Johnston MD is a psychiatrist, writer, and futurist. He is best known as the originator of Creative Systems Theory, a comprehensive framework for understanding change, purpose, and interrelationship in human systems. For many years he directed the Institute for Creative Development, a Seattle-based think tank and center for advanced leadership training. He has written seven books and numerous articles on the future and what it asks of us.
Dr. Johnston is often described as a “cultural psychiatrist.” While most futurists focus on technological advances, his greater interest lies with the leadership capacities and ways of understanding that humanity will need if it is to effectively address the questions before us.
The Institute for Creative Development website (www.creativesystems.org) documents the broader work of the Institute and provides links to an array of Creative Systems Theory–related sites. The ICD Press link at the top of this page provides descriptions of Dr. Johnston’s various books. And Dr. Johnston’s most current writing can be found at www.culturalmaturityblog.net.
